Beechwood Grove Extra Care Housing, Caversham, Reading - Case Study

Set within a leafy residential area in Caversham, Reading, Beechwood Grove is a thoughtfully designed extra care development for over-55s. Delivered by A2 Dominion, this scheme reflects a strong commitment to creating high-quality, community-focused living environments while reinvesting profits into housing and local initiatives.

Beechwood Grove occupies a prime position in Caversham and comprises 43 one- and two-bedroom assisted living apartments available for rent and shared ownership. The development followed the demolition of existing 1930s and 1970s buildings, making way for a modern, purpose-built scheme designed to support independent living with access to care.

Constructed by Feltham Construction Ltd, the development goes beyond private apartments to include a wide range of communal amenities. Residents benefit from spacious lounge areas, dining facilities, activity rooms, and beautifully landscaped gardens, fostering both independence and social interaction.

The project’s quality and design were recognised when it was shortlisted for the ‘Best Older People’s Housing Development’ at the Inside Housing Awards.

The ECLISSE Solution

To enhance both functionality and spatial efficiency within the apartments, 12 ECLISSE Classic Pocket Door Systems were installed between the kitchen and living/dining areas.

In later-living environments, space optimisation is essential—not only for comfort but also for accessibility. By incorporating pocket doors, the design team eliminated the need for traditional hinged doors, freeing up valuable floor and wall space. This allowed for:

  • Increased usable kitchen counter space
  • Improved flow between living areas
  • Easier navigation within the apartment

The result is a cleaner, more open-plan feel without compromising on the ability to separate spaces when needed.

Design Benefits

The integration of ECLISSE pocket doors complements the high-quality interior design throughout the apartments. Their discreet, space-saving design aligns perfectly with the development’s focus on practicality, accessibility, and aesthetics.

For residents, this translates into homes that are not only visually appealing but also highly functional—supporting independent living while maintaining a sense of openness and comfort.
