Owning It: Reflecting on the EOA Live Conference and What It Means for ECLISSE UK

At ECLISSE UK, employee ownership is more than a business model – it's a culture built on trust, collaboration and shared success.

Last week, members of our team attended the Employee Ownership Association (EOA) Live Conference in Birmingham, joining employee-owned organisations from across the UK for a day of learning, discussion and inspiration. The conference brought together businesses at different stages of their employee ownership journeys, all united by a common belief: that when people feel invested in the success of a business, great things happen. The theme for this year's event was "Owning It" – a fitting topic for organisations that place people at the heart of their success.

Celebrating the Power of Employee Ownership

One of the most valuable aspects of the conference was the opportunity to hear from businesses across a wide range of sectors and sizes. While every organisation approaches employee ownership differently, the underlying principles were remarkably consistent.

Successful employee-owned businesses create environments where people feel informed, trusted and connected to the wider purpose of the organisation. Employee ownership is not simply a structure; it is something that comes to life through communication, engagement and the everyday actions of the people within it.

This message resonated strongly with our own experience at ECLISSE UK. As an employee-owned business, we know that our greatest strength is our people. Creating opportunities for colleagues to contribute ideas, share knowledge and play an active role in our future remains central to who we are.

Inspiration Through Leadership

A standout moment of the conference was the keynote presentation from Philippa Tuttiett, whose powerful reflections on leadership, resilience and accountability captured the spirit of the day.

Her message centred on the importance of taking ownership, particularly during challenging situations. It served as a reminder that ownership is not defined by job titles or organisational structures, but by mindset, responsibility and the willingness to make a positive impact.

For us, it reinforced the importance of empowering individuals to take initiative, support one another and contribute to the continued success of ECLISSE UK.

Making a Positive Impact Beyond the Workplace

A session focused on social impact and community engagement explored how employee-owned businesses are strengthening connections with their local communities through charitable initiatives, sustainability projects and employee-led programmes.

The discussions highlighted the value of giving people a voice in choosing the causes and initiatives that matter to them, helping to create a stronger sense of purpose and shared achievement.

Responsible Innovation

The session on responsible AI offered a particularly thought-provoking perspective. Rather than focusing solely on productivity and efficiency, the conversation explored how organisations can adopt emerging technologies in ways that align with their values and culture.

As businesses continue to embrace innovation, maintaining a people-first approach remains essential—something that aligns closely with our own values at ECLISSE UK.

Different Approaches, Shared Success

Hearing real-life examples from two very different employee-owned businesses demonstrated that there is no single formula for success.

What mattered most was not the structure itself, but how effectively people were engaged, informed and involved. Regardless of industry or size, communication and participation consistently emerged as key drivers of successful employee ownership.

Looking Forward Together

The conference provided an opportunity not only to learn from others but also to reflect on the progress we have made as an employee-owned business.

At ECLISSE UK, we already have a strong foundation built on openness, collaboration and shared responsibility. The insights from the conference have inspired us to continue building on that foundation by:

  • Finding new and practical ways to increase employee engagement.
  • Continuing to strengthen our culture and celebrate the values that define us.
  • Exploring opportunities to share our employee ownership story more widely.
  • Encouraging wider participation in future EOA events so more colleagues can benefit from these experiences.

Building a Culture of Ownership

The strongest message we brought back from the EOA Live Conference was simple: employee ownership works best when people feel informed, involved and connected.

That belief is embedded in everything we do at ECLISSE UK. It shapes how we work together, how we make decisions and how we continue to grow as a business.

Events like EOA Live remind us that while every employee-owned company has its own journey, the most successful ones share a common goal: creating a workplace where everyone feels part of the story and empowered to help shape its future.

As we continue our own journey, we remain committed to fostering a culture where ownership is not just something we have, but something we actively live every day.
