What is a pocket door jamb kit and why is it important?

If you’re choosing a pocket door system, you may have come across the term 'jamb kit' or 'timber lining kit'. It might seem like a small part of the installation, but it plays an important role in giving a pocket door a neat, professional finish.

ECLISSE Classic Pocket Door Systems are supplied with a white primed jamb kit, ready for you to paint to suit your interior.

Our Syntesis Flush pocket door systems are different. These are designed for a completely flush, architrave-free finish, so they do not require a jamb kit.

What is a pocket jamb kit?

A jamb kit is the timber lining fitted around the opening of a pocket door.

It covers the edges of the pocket door framework and helps conceal the top and sides of the door when it is closed. It also prevents you from being able to see directly into the pocket inside the wall.

The result is a much cleaner and more finished-looking installation.

 

 

What does it contain?

The jamb kit is made up of: 

• (A) Top horizontal header pieces, supplied as one length, to be cut into two as required.
• (B) 2x pocket entrance verticals (one for each side of the pocket entrance).
• (C) 1x recessed doorpost - supplied only for the single pocket door system
• Plus brushes and rubber bumpers (pull apart to create two strips of bumpers). Note: we supply you two sets of brushes 15mm and 10mm to cope with both 35mm and 44mm thick doors.

The jambs are supplied primed white and ready to paint, making it easy to finish them to complement your door, architrave and surrounding décor.

Note: We do not supply the final architrave i.e. the decorative architrave that you see around traditional doors. You will want to source decorative architrave to match the rest of the property.

What about the architrave?

The jamb kit should not be confused with the decorative architrave fitted around the doorway.

ECLISSE supplies the jamb kit with Classic Pocket Door Systems, but the final decorative architrave is not included. This allows you to choose an architrave that matches the style and detailing used elsewhere in your home or project.

The jamb kit for a single door

A single pocket door jamb kit includes a recessed doorpost on the closing side of the doorway.

When the door is closed, it slides neatly into this recess. This 

helps create a cleaner finish and reduces the visible gap and light around the closing edge of the door.

The jamb kit also needs to suit the finished wall thickness of your chosen pocket door system, so it’s important to select the correct option when ordering.

Jamb kits for double pocket doors

A double pocket door installation works slightly differently because the two doors close together in the centre.

There is therefore no recessed doorpost, so the jamb kit differs slightly from the version supplied with a single pocket door system.

As with a single system, the jamb kit must be suitable for the finished wall thickness of your chosen frame.

Why is a jamb kit important?

Although it may look like a finishing detail, the jamb kit performs several useful jobs.

It gives the pocket door opening a clean, professional finish, covering the edges of the framework that would otherwise remain visible.

The dust brushes help conceal the opening into the pocket and provide a neat transition between the door and frame.

On a single pocket door, the recessed doorpost gives the door somewhere to close into, helping minimise the visible gap along the closing edge.

The rubber bumpers also soften contact as the door closes, helping make operation quieter.

Together, these components are what turn the pocket door frame into a properly finished doorway.
