Transforming Spaces: The Art of Pocket Doors in the Collingham Project
Posted by Hester Cross on 2nd Aug 2024
In the heart of the Collingham Project, a unique and innovative feature stands out among the many architectural marvels: pocket doors. These intriguing elements are not merely functional but are also a testament to thoughtful design and meticulous craftsmanship. Pocket doors, often overlooked in traditional design, offer a seamless blend of utility and aesthetic appeal, making them a perfect choice for modern living spaces.
The essence of pocket doors lies in their ability to disappear into walls, thus saving precious space. In the Collingham Project, this feature plays a crucial role in maximizing the usability of each room. By sliding neatly into recessed cavities, pocket doors eliminate the need for swing space, which is often a constraint in smaller or more intricately designed areas. This innovative use of space is particularly advantageous in urban settings, where every square foot counts. The Collingham Project demonstrates how pocket doors can transform living spaces, offering flexibility and a sense of openness that traditional doors simply cannot match.
"Beyond their practical benefits, ECLISSE Pocket doors in the Collingham Project are a statement of style. Crafted with precision, they add a touch of elegance and modernity to the interiors. The choice of materials, finishes, and hardware reflects a keen eye for detail and a commitment to quality. Whether used to divide living rooms, bedrooms, or even bathrooms, these doors contribute to a cohesive and sophisticated aesthetic. The Collingham Project showcases how pocket doors can be both a functional asset and a design highlight, proving that smart architectural choices can significantly enhance the liveability and beauty of a space." - says Award winning designer, Karen Knox.
ECLISSE Pocket doors offer a practical solution to space constraints while elevating the overall design with their sleek, unobtrusive presence. As more homeowners and designers recognize the benefits of such innovative features, pocket doors are sure to become a staple in contemporary architecture. The Collingham Project serves as an inspiring example of how thoughtful design can create spaces that are not only beautiful but also highly functional.
Hinged door takes nearly 1 sqm of floor space. By removing the need for the door swing, you instantly free up this floor space. Pocket doors give you choice, the choice of a completely open plan look but with the functionality to close spaces off easily. Where a standard hinged door would remain open for 90% of the time, like in this utility room directly off an open plan kitchen diner, a pocket door is the ideal choice. Once slid away, you would never even know it was there - even moreso when the door is floor to ceiling so the opening is completely full height
