ECLISSE launch slimmer frames that better suit modern stud work sizes

Wooden stud has historically been referred to in terms of its rough sawn timber measurement i.e. the overall unfinished imperial measurement of the profile for example, 3x2” and 4x2”. In metric terms this rough sawn profile measurement equates 75x50mm and 100x50mm. This why we started out selling pocket door frames that have a rear pocket measurement of 75mm and 100mm to match the size of the studwork at the time.

Today studwork has evolved and the building industry uses more standardised finished studs i.e., planed CLS (i.e. Canadian Lumber Standard) timber most commonly being sold at Builders and Timbers Merchants. This is because planed surfaces with eased corners provide a precision finish. Sometimes you will see this referred to via the unfinished measurement e.g., 75x50x2400mm stated and then the actual finished measurement i.e., 63 x 38 x 2400mm included. Common sizes of CLS profiles are 63x38mm and 89x38mm.

Because of the popularity now of these planed CLS timbers (63 and 89mm) profiles and with modern metal C-shaped studs which are 70mm and 90mm, we have launched a new thickness of pocket door systems with a rear pocket measurement of 70 and 90mm. You can see from the diagrams below how easy it is to now match our new range of sizes to the most common sizes of stud.

Example 1: Stud size CLS 3"x2" / 75 x 50mm  - Actual Dimensions 63 x 38mm

If you are using CLS that has a finished planed dimension of 63 x 38mm (i.e., rough sawn 75 x 50mm) then you will find it easier to use the new frame size with a 70mm rear pocket size rather than the old frame size of 75mm because the new size is closer to the actual dimensions of the stud. This will result in a finished wall thickness of 95mm.

Example 2: Stud size CLS 4"x2" /100 x 50mm - Actual Dimentions 89 x 38mm

If the customer is using CLS that has a finished planed dimension of 89 x 38mm (i.e., rough sawn 100 x 50mm) then the installer will find it easier to use the new frame size with a 90mm rear pocket size rather than the old frame size of 100mm because the new size is closer to the actual dimensions of the stud. This will result in a finished wall thickness of 115mm.

Example 3: 70mm metal C-shaped stud

If the customer is using a 70mm metal C-shaped stud the installer will find it easier to use the new frame size with a 70mm rear pocket size rather than the old frame size of 75mm because the new size is closer to the actual dimensions of the stud. This will result in a finished wall thickness of 95mm.

Example 4: 90mm metal C-shaped stud

If the customer is using a 90mm metal C-shaped stud the installer will find it easier to use the new frame size with a 90mm rear pocket size rather than the old frame size of 100mm because the new size is closer to the actual dimensions of the stud. This will result in a finished wall thickness of 115mm.
