Update on Build IT Education House, Graven Hill: The ECLISSE Pocket Door Systems have been installed

Posted by Caroline Clarkson on 12th Sep 2019

Earlier in the year, around the time that we supplied the Build IT team with a double FD30 Pocket Door System and two Classic Single Pocket Door Systems for their Education House at Graven Hill, the TV series ‘Grand Designs – The Street’ was also being televised. The TV programme followed the progress of a number of Graven Hill self-builders constructing their own houses (read our earlier blog article  here). With over 1,900 homes Graven Hill is the biggest self-build and custom build community of its kind in the UK, and it is set to revolutionise the way in which properties are designed and built by offering a flexible alternative to the usual routes.

The idea behind the Built It Education House is to showcase the design possibilities and practical choices self-builders need to make when embarking on their own self-build project. The team will be installing a wide range of innovative products (including our ECLISEE pocket doors) to highlight a wide range of design possibilities open to self-builders. Some products will have cutaway panels demonstrating how they’re installed and there will be detailed informational graphics explaining the decisions made during the self-build process too, including how different choices would have affected the project timeline and build costs.

The Education House is reaching the end of the first fix stage and the September edition of Build IT magazine takes the reader through all the elements of first fix including the installation of the ECLISSE pocket door frames. Chris Bates the Build IT editor and Education House project manager writes:

“We’re using pocket doors in two key locations: the opening between the hallway and snug; and from the master bedroom into its adjoining rooms (a walk-in wardrobe and an ensuite). Due to the open plan nature of the ground floor, we need FD30 fire-rated doors at the snug. We could only find one specialist, ECLISSE, that currently offers an FD30 pocket mechanism.”

As the Build IT magazine and online blog takes the reader through the self-build process step by step, we will also return with a new blog post when the pocket door systems have been plasterboarded and the doors and jambs have been installed. So, keep checking our blog for the latest updates.
